St. Andrews Art Club was founded in 1959 by an enthusiastic group of amateur and professional artists.  It has flourished ever since and the present membership stands at around 170.

Our constitution states that "the object of the club is to advance the education of the public in St Andrews and its environs in the knowledge, understanding and appreciation of the arts and particularly the visual arts"

Today we continue our founders' traditions with a wide range of activities for members throughout the year, with lectures, demonstrations, competitions, and criticisms of members work, and talks held monthly on Thursday evenings between September and March. There are also daytime tutored and untutored weekly classes available at a small extra cost throughout this period, though places are limited. In addition, other one off "workshops" are arranged throughout the year, covering a wide range of practical artistic subjects. In the summer, members join together informally to paint outside, weather permitting.

The highlight of our year is the annual summer exhibition to which members are allowed to submit a limited number of paintings. It has always been a remarkably successful show and we are proud of the reputation that it has earned for the high standard of work produced.
